Jared Polec is set for a stint on the sidelines after undergoing successful surgery on a foot injury.

Polec, who came into the side in Round 2 this season, was hoping to put together a strong run of games at the beginning of this 2022 season after having his 2021 campaign heavily impacted by hamstring problems.

General Manager of Football Performance says the club has strong clarity on how long the exciting wing player will be unavailable for.

"'Polly' was actually quite sore after the Brisbane game in his foot. He went and saw a specialist because it just wasn't going away, the pain," McPherson told North Media.

"He actually went in for surgery last Saturday morning, so he'll be off for an extended period of time - probably six to seven weeks."

Another player who is a certainty to miss the Good Friday SuperClash is Cam Zurhaar, after the young forward suffered a concussion in last weekend's narrow loss to Sydney.

Zurhaar has become a near-constant fixture in the Kangaroos' forward line in the past two seasons, and he kicked 31 goals for the side last campaign.

McPherson says Zurhaar should be available as soon as he moves through the AFL's concussion protocols.

"Cam won't play this week obviously with the concussion protocols," he said.

"He still had a little bit of a headache on Sunday but we expect he'll progress without hiccup and he'll be available to play against Geelong next week."

A pair of young guns are expected to put their hands up for selection this weekend as Eddie Ford and Tom Powell have recovered from their respective issues to return to training.

Powell missed the Sydney clash with soreness, while Eddie Ford was excluded from the side due to entering the league's health and safety protocols.

"[Powell] just pulled up a bit sore after the main training session last week, so we erred on the side of caution with him so he didn't play. He trained this morning and looked like he was moving pretty well so he'll be in consideration as well," McPherson said.

"[Ford] was a bit stiff because he had to be withdrawn from the team last week because Covid got him. He was back today at training and he trained pretty well so he should be available for selection."

North's VFL side is set to benefit from the return of two star inside midfielders, as Will Phillips and Jed Anderson continue their recoveries and look to throw themselves into the mix for senior selection.

Phillips has been dealing with a bout of glandular fever in recent weeks, while Anderson has been continuing to build his conditioning base following his late return to pre-season.

"We expect Will to play this weekend in the VFL ... he's had a really good last two weeks and he's been able to increase his training loads," McPherson said.

"Jed has been able to get a good training block in under his belt over the last month or so. He should play between half and three quarters of the VFL game."

Tarryn Thomas is looking to accelerate his return from internal bruising and could be in contention to return to the side as soon as Round 6. 

Initially slated for up to eight weeks on the sidelines, Thomas' recovery is progressing well and he's made a return to light training duties.

"Tarryn was able to do a bit of training today which was good. All things going well he'd be perhaps an outside chance to play next week, but most likely the week after (Round 7 against Carlton)."
