Levi Greenwood, Jordan Gysberts edge closer
Two players on the cusp of AFL selection have taken another step forward.
The midfield pair finished the game against the Dolphins with 20 possessions apiece and development coach John Lamont believes the Kangaroos' loss to the Gold Coast may help their chances of selection.
"They're potentially a good chance of getting a call up," Lamont told NMFC.com.au.
"I suppose the senior match committee could have a serious look at them and it might help the boys' chances in their fight for an opportunity.
"All they can do is keep controlling what they do, make sure they're keeping up their end of the bargain by playing good footy and sticking to instructions."
Ayden Kennedy (18 possessions) was named amongst the best for the Tigers, but missed the final quarter after suffering an ankle injury.
"Ayden was very good in defence yesterday but went off midway through the third and didn't come back on after that."
North rookie Ben Speight (9 possessions) had a more solid performance against the Dolphins, but is still working on a few areas of his game.
"Ben kicked a couple of good goals and had a couple of nice tackles. He just needs to play with more confidence, he'll continue to get better as he gets more of that self-confidence in his footy."
Tim McGenniss (18 possessions, 5 tackles) got a hold of the ball on plenty of occasions but Lamont is eager for more improvement from the young rookie.
"Tim played on the ball all day, he lacked a bit of zip and was a bit one paced but showed some good things."
International rookie Eric Wallace lined up for the Tigers reserves' team in their 25-point win. Lamont pleased with 'The Beast's' improvement.
"Eric did some really good work in the ruck...I was rapt," Lamont said.
"He kicked their first goal from 40 metres out, took four or five marks and managed three shots at goal and kicked two of them.
"It was great of Werribee to let him play since he's a North Ballarat player. I'd like to think he might be getting closer to playing as a back up ruckman to Ben Mabon later in the year if he keeps going the way he is."
Kieran Harper and Mason Wood both watched on from the sidelines as they recover from minor injuries.
Lamont praised the efforts of fellow development coach and Liston Medal favourite Jarred Moore, who continues to be named in the best players each week.
"Moorey had another impressive game...he's having a good year. It's working really well having him as a coach and a player. He's a great bloke for a start and the players learn so much from the way he works hard and plays with so much effort."
Former Roo Ben Warren kicked nine majors for the Tigers.
