Among the three debutants in the North Melbourne Tasmanian Kangaroos' AFLW season opener at Arden St on Saturday, one in particular will make history.
Amy Smith will run out against Geelong as the Kangaroos' first ever father-daughter recruit.
The daughter of high-flying forward Shaun Smith, who played 47 games for the Roos and 62 for the Demons, Smith will make her AFLW debut alongside fellow first-gamers Jas Ferguson and Tess Craven.
With the season launching amid a Covid-19 outbreak which has also sidelined Kangaroos skipper Emma Kearney, AFLW coach Darren Crocker said every player on the club's list will be expected to play their part.
"We've got to have a full-squad mentality," Crocker said. "Anyone on our list of 30 players could be called up at the last minute.
"Our message to players is to be really diligent. There might be disruptions to training and their gym work, but …at any stage, anyone can get called up. Make sure to get ready and grab your opportunities when that does happen."

The round one clash with Geelong is a rematch of last season's opener, which the Roos won by 62 points, but Crocker said there was no room at the club for complacency.
"Coming into round one, you always come in with a bit of apprehension," Crocker said.
"Most teams will be thinking, we've had a really good pre-season.
"This pre-season for us has been far more targeted. We've tried to build that game knowledge a lot more and put players in scenarios that they'll find themselves in in games."

Amy Smith
"It's been really nice for me being lucky enough to play with her dad and now coach Amy.
"We drafted her last year and she's worked extremely hard.
"She had a couple of injuries last year that set her back with her overall growth and development but she's had a really strong pre-season this year.
"We've exposed her to the wing role and she's really embraced that. She's got a very strong tank which allows her to be able to play that wing role and get up and down the ground really well.
"She's got a tremendous attitude to her football and she'll get the best out of herself."
Jas Ferguson
"Ferg's played VFLW for Collingwood. She was someone we looked at in the draft as a real need for us. We're looking to throw the team around this year and we felt we needed a really dependable key defender.
"She's been super professional with the way she's gone about it.
"She's taken all before her. She's really learned our system and she's a real competitor.
I'm really excited to see what she can do for us."
Tess Craven
"Tess was our first pick in the draft. We believe that she's got a hell of a lot of talent.
"She came to us with an injury; a stress fracture on her foot, so it's been a slow build-up for Tess. We didn't want to push her too much, too early, but from the first time she joined in training you can see that she's a natural footballer.
"She reads the game well, she's got really tidy skills and I think she's going to be a really good player for us for a long time."
