Jas Garner has won the past two Kangaroos best and fairest awards

The North Melbourne Tasmanian Kangaroos have delivered consistent finals football since joining AFLW in 2019, and Luke McDonald believes the side can go one step further in 2022.

“It would be bloody exciting (winning an AFLW premiership). I do think we’ve got the best list in the league, so it’s up to the girls to get it done,” McDonald said on the latest episode of the ‘Happy Dais’ podcast.

“Jas Garner is a gun, Jenna Bruton is very classy, the skipper (Emma Kearney), Ash Riddell. I like the mids, they’re just guns,” McDonald said.

A lifelong Kangaroos supporter and a true North man, McDonald revealed he was invited to help shape the club’s inaugural AFLW list.

“At the very start (former club executive) Laura Kane invited (former North player) Taylor Garner and I into this meeting, and it was a list management meeting about who we were going to go after,” he said.

“We had tiers, and we were talking about which players were going into each tier. I found it really interesting.

“When we were trying to get people in I’d be giving them a call or a text to try and get them down, and I think we assembled the best list in AFLW.

“I’ll say it was my idea to get Jas Garner across … it’s good watching how much she dominates … we like to take a bit of credit but we won’t take credit until we win a flag.”
