Key forward Kate Shierlaw has been ruled out of the North Melbourne Tasmanian Kangaroos' Week 6 fixture with the Western Bulldogs, while captain Emma Kearney is expected to miss the next six weeks with a high-grade hamstring strain.

Kearney injured her right hamstring early in the first quarter of Sunday’s win over Richmond, with scans on Monday confirming the extent of the injury.

"This is obviously disappointing news for Emma and our program," North Melbourne general manager of women’s football Erin Lorenzini said.

"Emma is an incredibly reliable player and leader for us and was putting together another stellar campaign this season.

"For this type of injury, it's usually a six-week rehab, and we know she will do everything in her power to return within that timeframe and continue to support the team as much as she can from the sidelines."

Shierlaw will miss this Saturday's clash at Arden Street after suffering an elbow sprain against the Tigers.

However, the 35-year-old is expected to make a quick recovery and be available for the club's trip to North Hobart Oval in Week 7 to face Sydney.

Young winger Taylah Gatt (illness) is in line to return against the Bulldogs after missing her first game since making her AFLW debut in 2022’s Season 7 opener. Gatt will need to complete training this week if she's to immediately return to the line-up.
