Star recruit Jaidyn Stephenson believes his move to North Melbourne can help take his career to the next level.
The former NAB Rising Star arrived at North Melbourne in the trade period after kicking 76 goals in 54 games for Collingwood, primarily as a forward.
But Stephenson says a transition into the midfield will suit him perfectly.
“I was very set in my ways … where I was playing just as that deep forward,” Stephenson told AFL.com.au’s Damian Barrett.
“To come to a new club and have that blank canvas to train with the inside mids … I’d have never gotten that opportunity (if he didn’t come to new club).
“The opportunities are endless and I’ve got a really good bunch of people around me to help me be the best version of myself … I think it will help my career grow and prosper.”
Stephenson won the NAB Rising Star Award in 2018, illustrating his outstanding potential, and is keen to become an even better player at North.
“I’ve always just loved playing football … I love the team environment … just that feeling of being around 22 mates you get along really well with.” he said.
“I just love the competitive nature of sport and being able to show someone you’re better than them.
“That hunger is still within me today.”
Stephenson says he has used all of his experiences over his short AFL career as learning opportunities, and he’s already forming close bonds with his new teammates.
“I’ve only been at North Melbourne a short time, but I’ve been able to build some really strong relationships already, and have certainly made some lifelong friends.”
“I still have a lot more to offer in my career and I think North Melbourne will get paid out in dividends.”
