North Melbourne’s future was on show at Arden Street on Saturday with highly-rated youngster Ben McKay impressing in a practice match against Werribee at Arden Street.

The 200cm forward booted three goals, but could have had up to seven, if not for some inaccurate kicking.

Using a combination of athleticism and height, McKay dominated and impressed his teammates.

“Yeah Benny’s been really good especially in training the last couple of weeks,” Jarrad Waite told NMFC.com.au.

“He’s just really contesting well in the air, he’s got a god set of hands as well … just a real big body … he’s put a bit of size on over the last couple of years.”

Waite senses there’ll be plenty of opportunities for the exciting 19-year-old.

“He’s going to be really important for us this year,” Waite added.

Also impressing in the searing heat was Nathan Hrovat - the small forward booting four goals and collecting 17 possessions.

Shaun Higgins also had a day out with 28 disposals and two goals, while Jamie Macmillan had 27 and provided plenty of run out of the back line.

Other possession getters included Dumont (25), Ziebell (23) and Cunnington (20).

Play stopped at the start of the third quarter following a sickening collision between Declan Mountford and Cam Zurhaar. They clashed heads while going for a loose ball and needed medical attention. After a thorough assessment from medical staff, both were able to walk from the field but took neither took further part in the match.

On Friday, the North players will go head-to-head in a city versus country intra club match.
