With the Trade Period currently underway, NMFC.com.au takes a look back at some of North Melbourne's most noteworthy trades since the National Draft was introduced.

1992

In: Dean Laidley (West Coast)
Out: Pick 8 (Paul Symmons)

Following a disappointing season, North elected to go with experience rather than youth and traded its first pick (#8) in 1992 to West Coast for Dean Laidley.

Laidley immediately became a regular in the backline, combining his trademark toughness with rebound out of the defensive half. He became a premiership player in 1996 and retired at the end of 1997 after 99 games at Arden St.

He returned to the club in 2003 as senior coach and held the position until 2009.

The Eagles used pick 8 to select Paul Symmons, who played 99 games for West Coast between 1994 and 2000.

Overall the 1992 post-season was a successful period for North, with bold moves landing not only Laidley, but also John Blakey, Matthew Capuano and Alex Ishchenko.
