North Melbourne forward Jarrad Waite says Sunday’s big win over Brisbane would help atone for a sluggish start to the season.

Waite praised the Roos’ ability to bounce back after being humbled by the Crows in the season opener.

"Last week was disappointing for the club and we wanted to rectify that this week," Waite told NMFC.com.au.

"Our intensity and pressure was so much better this week and we’ve got to take that into next week against Port Adelaide."

The 186-gamer, who booted seven goals in the 82-point thumping of the Lions, had told himself he owed it to his teammates to put in a strong performance and impress in his new colours.

"I was very disappointed personally with my game last week, so I was really keen to provide just a consistent effort," he said.

"I’m just happy I contributed to the team and the team played well and I feel like I earned a little bit of respect back from the boys."

Waite was also awarded the Powershop Play of the Day for his sharp goal in the second quarter.

"It kind of worked out nicely, (the ball) got kicked into the 50 and big Drewy (Petrie) provided a really good contest with the bloke coming back in to his space. Then luckily enough it fell on the ground, Kayne (Turner) flicked it out and didn’t fumble it and picked it up and a little check-side, so it’s always good to get a little crumbing goal."

But for Waite, the most pleasing aspect of the day was the all round performance from the squad.

"It was just good that the team played as a group today.

"If we do that week-in, week-out, we are going to be a really good team."
