2. Taylor Hine v Jarrad Grant
Story of the game:
Footscray burst out of the blocks away from home.
“It was a bad, bad day. They (the Bulldogs) jumped us and kicked eight goals in the first quarter to none. They just smashed us.
“The first half was really disappointing. Footscray really were far too good for us.”
A six goal to two final quarter made the scoreboard more respectable, but the Bulldogs went on to win by 40 points.
“In the second half we fought back for a little bit of pride, but all in all it was a very disappointing game.” – Senior Development Coach Gavin Brown
Points of interest:
1. In a tough day for Werribee, an injury to Majak Daw only made things worse.
The ruck/forward was stretchered off in the last quarter with what looked like a serious leg injury.
“He was in a one-on-one marking contest and turned his body awkwardly and went back. We didn’t really know what it was. It looks like his foot has turned inward. He was in a fair bit of pain coming off on the stretcher.”
Daw was taken to hospital for scans.

2. It wasn’t his best performance, but Mason Wood continues to press his claims for a senior debut with 24 disposals and 2 goals, playing on the wing and up forward.
“The way the game panned out with the Bulldogs controlling it for most of the day, he didn’t have a massive impact on the game, but he’s contributed. I thought he was clean at times.”
Wood only returned from Canberra last night after making the trip as a travelling emergency.
3. After showing encouraging signs in recent weeks in the back half, Kieran Harper sustained an ankle injury during the first quarter.
“He hurt his good ankle. He gave it a bit of a tweak and didn’t take any further part in the game. He’ll need scans early in the week.”
4. Daniel Currie and Ayce Cordy played out an intriguing battle in the ruck. The pair split the hit-outs, and had similar disposal numbers.
“He (Currie) probably had his colours lowered to Cordy I would say, but in the second half he was better with 3 good marks and a goal.”
5. Under immense pressure particularly in the first half, the defenders had a mixed day.
Scott McMahon finished with 16 disposals, while Taylor Hine manned Jarrad Grant when Harper left the field.
His taller opponent booted 3 goals as a direct opponent, but Hine had 15 disposals of his own.
Most likely call-ups: Mason Wood
